Ministerial Education Commission

The Ministerial Education Commission has national responsibility in the area of theological education within the Uniting Church.

The Commission:

  • recognises colleges that are approved training centres and oversees these;
  • sets pre-requisites for admission as candidates for various ministries;
  • prescribes minimum requirements for courses of study;
  • issues certificates for completion of studies for various ministries;
  • encourages ecumenical education; and
  • recommends policies and standards to Assembly, for continuing education.

In all its work the Commission is committed to national consultation via email, teleconferencing and networking, maintaining national standards with a degree of flexibility that recognises the variable contexts of each Synod.

Executive and Working Groups

The Commission's Executive is located in Queensland but the full Commission meets nationally once a year. The MEC has various working groups located in different Synods.
