The Uniting Church National Assembly Working Group on Relations with Other Faiths would like to congratulate Mr Jim Mein AM, who was admitted to the Order of Australia on Australia Day this year. Jim received the Member of the Order of Australia for his service to the Uniting Church in Australia through a range of roles; to the promotion of inter-faith dialogue; to education; and to the community.
During his time as Moderator of the Uniting Church in Australia NSW Synod, one of the interfaith initiatives in which Jim was involved was the official launch of the website ‘Interfaith Sydney’. This website was the outcome of ongoing discussion and collaboration between Muslims involved with the Affinity Intercultural Foundation and representatives from the Catholic, Anglican and Uniting Churches, in NSW . The website serves as an interfaith portal to relevant events and news around Sydney, and is a local initiative.
At the launch of ‘Interfaith Sydney’, Jim demonstrated his support of interfaith dialogue and activity, stating that ‘differences are a treasure, the more dialogue is promoted, the better it is, if left without, the very fabric of our society can be threatened with the biggest challenge of fear’.
Congratulations and best wishes from Relations with Other Faiths.
