Chairperson's notes: May 2010

Dear Friends,

I’m writing on Ascension Day. Earlier this morning, I reflected on the lectionary readings for today.

In writing to the churches in Galatia (1: 15 –23), Paul begins with  “But when God, who had set me apart before I was born and called me through his grace, was pleased ‘to reveal his son to me’, so that I might proclaim him….”

Many of those who attended the Celebration last month have written about what those days have meant to them in phrases like

-          There we were together. God gathered us for such a time!

-          He must have something for us to do.

-          From the beginning I was challenged by our singing ‘For such a time as this…’

-          The singing was so amazing!

-          It was a celebration as far as I could feel ; a lovely atmosphere, just able to concentrate on being inspired to hear of what the Lord is doing…..

-          I had a strong sense of God’s presence ….

-          Worship. Bible studies, Speakers, Vespers and to have our President and General Secretary with us made it extra special……

-          It was like feasting in God’s presence…..

-          A renewing of the spirit, of my commitment to the Uniting Church…

-          I thought I was too old to continue what I have been doing. I go back refreshed.

We need to reflect on that time together, to talk about how God has been at work in us. And we must be ready to move on with God, to tell that story; to share the stories in Powerful Moments of Destiny; to encourage others as we share all we learned about the church’s ministry through UnitingCare, Defence Chaplaincy, Frontier Services and Uniting World.

With Paul we must be ready to proclaim him among all people.

On behalf of the National Committee, I want to thank the 150 people who participated in the Celebration. We have all been blessed. God calls us to bless others!

I also want to thank the Synod UCAF Committees, for all they do especially their part in publicising and encouraging people to participate in ‘For such a time as this...’

No with Paul ‘Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ..…to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen’
