The Assembly Standing Committee has approved the appointment of Rev. Dr Apwee Ting as the new National Director of Multicultural and Cross Cultural Ministry.

Rev. Dr Ting is a Minister of the Word at Dandenong Uniting Church in Victoria, in one of Australia’s most culturally diverse and multifaith communities. He is a former Chairperson of the UCA’s Indonesian National Conference, as well as a former Chair (2006-2009) and current member of the Assembly’s National Reference Committee for Multicultural and Cross Cultural Ministry, with the specified role of liaison with the Assembly’s Relations with other Faiths Working Group.

A Cardinal from Tonga

Soane Patita Paini MafiThe Uniting Church in Australia welcomes the Vatican's appointment of the first Cardinal from the Kingdom of Tonga.

Bishop Soane Patita Paini Mafi, 53, was one of 20 appointments announced by Pope Francis on 4 January, with many of the new Cardinals coming from developing countries. Bishop Mafi became the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tonga and Niue in January 2014 and will take up his new role on 14 February.

Rev. Jason Kioa, Chairperson of the Uniting Church in Australia's Tongan National Conference, commended the appointment.

Building Bridges Study Guide

The Building Bridges DVD and Study Guide highlights the biblical and theological basis for why cross cultural ministry is at the heart of our communal life. The two DVDs and the accompanying Study Guide can be used by individuals, groups or congregations for group study in the practice of growing disciples in their faith. 

The President of the Uniting Church in Australia Rev. Professor Andrew Dutney and members of Church’s Tongan National Conference have today called for a renewed focus on the positive achievements of Tongan youth in Australia.

MCM shares the good news

Members of the Multicultural and Cross Cultural Ministry National Reference Committee met in Sydney from 28-30 May to discuss issues faced in cross-cultural ministries and congregations across Australia.
