Disaster Ready in NSW/ACT

Written by Rev. Dr Stephen Robinson

Coordinating the Disaster Recovery Chaplaincy Network across NSW is no easy feat, from evacuation and recovery centres to ongoing pastoral support.

This week I joined NSW/ACT Synod Moderator Rev. Dr Myung Hwa Park and General Secretary Rev. Dr Andrew Williams in signing a new Memorandum of Understanding with the NSW Department of Justice.

The NSW Disaster Recovery Chaplaincy network is a multi-faith, ecumenical network that facilitates this important work.

Present at the signing were the other community partners who provide services in the arrangement: Salvation Army (catering), Anglicare (personal requisites and volunteers for the other agencies, ADRA (accommodation) and Red Cross (personal support) with Dr Allison Rowlands and Secretary of the Department of Justice, Andrew Cappie-Wood.

The floods are continuing to cause issues across NSW and Victoria. In the NSW areas of Forbes and Condobolin many farmers are yet to count the cost of lost crops after years of drought.

The churches will continue to play an important part in the recovery process for these communities.

Please remember the Assembly Disaster Relief Fund is always open to donations.
