Led by the Lord's Light

I was recently blessed with the opportunity of a lifetime - representing the Uniting Church in Australia at the Asian Ecumenical Youth Assembly (AEYA). I joined 350 young Christians from across 36 countries in Manado, Indonesia from April 6-13 2018.

We dove deep into the theme ‘Lord, Send Your Light and Truth to Lead Us’ and we were tasked to express our views on a wide range of issues we face as young people in a fast-changing world.

My personal highlight was the Asian Easter Celebration where they showcased the colourful culture of Indonesia and its Christian churches.

The gathering reminded me to be a witness of the Risen Christ through Bible studies, panel presentations and the youth-led dialogue groups.

As I heard challenging stories of the daily realities from other young people, I felt the call to prayer and encouraged others to join me. We prayed together for the Lord’s light to lead.

I took some time out after the event to visit our UCA sister Church in Tondano.

The hospitality from the church community was as beautiful as the natural surroundings of the lake and mountains.

Walking around the town centre, we met so many young people in their church and the next generation of leaders.

I left Indonesia having made many life-long friends, and I left with a full spirit.

The experience gave me a heightened awareness of the world around me, having walked the stunning peaks and valleys of Indonesia. All of this is God’s Creation.

Through this journey, I fell more in love with the Lord and his wondrous works in my life, and the blessings of the people around me.

I return to Australia happy, grateful and blessed from a Journey where I grew deeper in faith and continue to be encouraged in witnessing the Lord’s light.

It was truly an adventure I am unlikely to forget for a long time.
