Vale Joan Tanner

It is with deep sadness that we advise the Uniting Church of the death of Mrs Joan Tanner on Sunday, the 24th of February in Canberra. She was 91.

Joan was the much-loved wife of Rev Ian Tanner, past President of the Assembly from 1985 to 1988. Joan and Ian shared a wonderful partnership in ministry and life during their 63 years of marriage.

Joan was well known and loved for her compassion, warmth and hospitality. She hosted many gatherings in her home for people of the Uniting Church, and members of our international partner churches. She offered a listening ear and insightful words of encouragement to many of us engaged in ministry in and through the Church.

Joan had a deep faith in Christ. She was committed to the life and mission of the Uniting Church, and local congregations of which she was a part, including Wesley Uniting Church in Canberra, where she was a member until her passing.

We thank God for Joan and her faithful service to Christ and the Church. May she rest in peace, in the loving arms of God.

We offer our love and prayers of comfort to Joan’s children, Susan, Geoffrey, Margaret, Andrew and Peter, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Yours in Christ
