Honoured for their service

A number of people associated with the Uniting Church and our agencies have been recognised in today's 2020 Honours List.

God has blessed us with their service and we convey heartfelt thanks for their part in our part of the body of Christ.

A special thank you to Geoffrey Grinton who has been the Business Manager at every Assembly meeting since 2003, who has received a Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division.

South Australia

Ms Judith Margaret CROSS AM, Lockleys

For significant service to community health through social welfare organisations. A former Director, Counselling and Family Services, Adelaide Central Mission (now UnitingCommunities), 1984-1988 who went on to serve as Chief Executive Officer, Relationships Australia in South Australia, 2001-2016.

Mrs Ruth Adelaide DAWS OAM, Burnside

For service to netball, and to the community. Mrs Daws is Founder and President of the Burnside City Uniting Church Netball Club, since 2013. She also founded the Beaumont Uniting Church, Netball Club in 1966 and has held executive roles in the SA United Church Netball Association. Mrs Daws is President of the Monday Fellowship Group Burnside City Uniting Church and a Member of the Pastoral Care Committee.

Mr Brian Douglas HERN OAM, Walkerville

For service to the Uniting Church in Australia. Mr Hern has chaired Synod of South Australia Stipends Committee since 1999, and a Member of the Committee since 1996. He has served as Treasurer of Brougham Place Uniting Church since 1981, and has been a Choir Member since 1980. He’s also held executive roles at the Royal School of Church Music, SA Branch, and is a Life Member of the Adelaide Harmony Choir. He was also a Clayton Church Homes Board member for 27 years, and served as Chairman for 20 years from 1992-2019, and was recognised as Volunteer of the Year by the Town of Walkerville in 2014.

Mr Roger Wilfrid McCAULEY OAM, Moonta 

For service to the Uniting Church in Australia, and to the community. Mr McCauley is a Lay Preacher, Branches Community Church on the Yorke Peninsula, in the Synod of South Australia.. He has been a Volunteer Ambassador with Leprosy Mission since 2009, and a Member of Gideon's International since 1998.
Life Member and Team Leader, South Australian Ambulance Service at Moonta.


The Reverend Margaret Jane BLAIR OAM, Healesville

For service to the Uniting Church in Australia.
After being ordained in 1993 Rev. Blair served as minister of the word in Wodonga, Ringwood and Western Port Presbytery. She chaired the VicTas Synod’s Nominations Advisory Panel from 2008 to 2010 and was later a Member, Uniting Church Synod Reception of Ministers Committee.
She is also a former Vice-President, Victorian Council of Churches and was a member of VicTas Synod Standing Committee from 1996 to 1999.
Rev. Blair has also held executive roles at Healesville Interchurch Community Care Inc.

Mrs Eulalie Perry BREWSTER OAM, Inverloch

For service to the community of Inverloch. Mrs Brewster is the Patron and Founding Member, Inverloch Historical Foundation, since 1996. Founding and Life Member of the South Gippsland Conservation Society and a Member of the Field Naturalist Club of Victoria, since 1944. Mrs Brewster has been an Elder at Inverloch Uniting Church since 1983.

Ms Pamela Nance CLARKE OAM, Horsham

For service to local government, and to the community of Horsham. A Councillor and former Mayor at Horsham Rural City Council since 2003.
Chair of Uniting Wimmera (formerly Wimmera Uniting Care) from 2012 to 2015 and a Board Member for eight years.

The Reverend Ann Bryson DRUMMOND AM, Docklands

For significant service to the Uniting Church in Australia and to women. Rev. Drummond has served as Chair, Sexual Misconduct Complaints Panel, Synod of Victoria and Tasmania since 2008, and a Member of the Panel since 2001.

Mr Geoffrey Ross GRINTON OAM, Blackburn South

For service to the Uniting Church in Australia. Mr Grinton has been the Business Manager for Assembly Meetings, 2003-2018 and a Member of Assembly from 1994-2018.
He has held many roles within the Church including:
Member, Assembly Standing Committee Governance Committee, since 2013.
Member, Assembly Standing Committee, since 2009 and 2003-2005.
Chairperson and Member, Synod of Victoria and Tasmania Business Committee, 1980-2016.
Member, VicTas Synod Standing Committee, 1981-2017.
Secretary and Inaugural Chairperson, Presbytery of Yarra Yarra since 2016 and previously held similar roles in the previous Presbytery of Maroondah.
Member of the Burwood Heights Uniting Church Congregation since 1977 and Chairperson of the Congregation since 2013.
Geoffrey has also been President of the Heidelberg Choral Society since 2014.

Dr Ian Victor HANSEN OAM, Kew
For service to the community, and to education.Dr Hansen has held senior academic and professional roles in the education sector and has taught English at schools in the United Kingdom, South Australia and Victoria. He has been a Lay Preacher at North Balwyn Uniting Church, since 2001.

Ms Colleen Georgette PEARCE AM, North Fitzroy
For significant service to the community through public advocacy roles. Former Director, UnitingCare Victoria and Tasmania and former Board Member, Frontier Services, 2004-2012. Victorian Public Advocate, since 2007.

Ms Sabine Cornelia PHILLIPS AM, Port Melbourne
For significant service to aged welfare, and to the legal profession. A Board Member of Uniting Agewell since 2015 and a Member of Uniting Agewell’s, Clinical Governance Committee


Dr Paul Elias ELIADIS AM, South Brisbane
For significant service to medicine as a clinical haematologist, and to charitable initiatives. enior Medical Practitioner at The Wesley Hospital since 2015.

New South Wales

Mr Kenneth Bruce ADAMS OAM, Bowral
For service to the community of the Southern Highlands, and to the plumbing industry. Mr Adams is a longstanding parishioner at Bowral Uniting Church who given more than 30 years of service as Chair, Secretary and Treasurer for the Church Council.  He has been involved in many charitable roles as an Ambassador of the Movement Disorder Foundation, as the Formation Secretary of DreamCricket Australia (a group that promotes cricket activities for primary aged students with special needs.)
Mr Adams has held leadership roles in Rotary International and the Rotary Club of Bowral-Mittagong: Bowral Tulip Time Festival, Berrima District Ambulance Service, Master Plumbers Association of New South Wales, and the Institute of Plumbing Australia

Mrs Diana Joy ALEXANDER OAM, Lockhart
For service to education, and to the community of Lockhart.
A music teacher and arts coordinator with New South Wales Department of Education in the Riverina region.
Mrs Alexander has been a member of Lockhart Uniting Church since 1980s.
She was recognized as the first Riverina Country Woman of the Year Award, 1974.

Mrs Rebecca ANDREWS OAM, South Maroota
For service to the community of West Papua, and to equestrian organisations.
Mrs Andrews is the Founding Director and Chairperson of the West Papuan Development Company since 2012 and a Volunteer for Equestrian New South Wales since 2008.
Church Councillor at Ebenezer-Pitt Town Uniting Church for 20 years and a Scripture Teacher, Maroota Public School, since 2003.

The Reverend Albert William ROSIER OAM, Galston
For service to the Uniting Church of Australia, and to the community.
Minister of the Word in the Uniting Church and previously of the Canberra Methodist Circuit, since 1958. Chaplain, Chaplain and Principal Chaplain, Royal Australian Navy, 1966-1987. Chaplain, Royal North Shore Hospital, 1987-1998. New South Wales State Chaplain, 2006-2011.

Mr William George WARBURTON OAM, North Tamworth
For service to the community of Tamworth. Mr Warburton has served in a number of roles with the Rotary Club of Tamworth including as President from 1985 to 1986. He has also been a fundraiser and volunteer for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. Mr Warburton is a Director of the Australian Country Music Foundation as well as a Committee Member and Treasurer of the Tamworth Foundation for Musical Education. He was served as Secretary and President of the Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School School Advisory Committee, and was a Committee Member and held executive roles with the Billabong Clubhouse, Challenge Community Services, Graziers Association of New South Wales, and the Calrossy Pre-School Committee. He is a member of Tamworth Southside Uniting Church.


Mrs Lexie Eileen YOUNG OAM, Deloraine
For service to the community of Deloraine. President of the Deloraine Branch of the Australian Red Cross since 2009 and Coordinator of the Annual Red Cross Doorknock Appeal. For 20 tears she wrote the 'Lexie's Town and Country' column for the Western Tiers Newspaper. Currently President of the Deloraine Probus Club and a volunteer at the Deloraine Agricultural and Pastoral Society. Member of the Deloraine Uniting Church Adult Fellowship Group for 55 years. Former State Vice-President, 1989-1990 of the Country Women's Association. Australia's Fastest Knitter, 1969

Mrs Jocelyn Yvonne WATSON OAM, Newstead
For service to the community of Launceston. A member of East Launceston Uniting Church since 1977, a Church Elder for over 20 years and Chair of the Elders Council for 12 years. Now a member at Pilgrim Uniting Church and a Volunteer at Maggie's Cafe which is associated with the church.
Member of the Royal Commonwealth Society and the Launceston Horticultural Society and a Life Member, Pharmaceutical Society of Australia.
