Together for Justice

Earlier this week I had the privilege to host a gathering of people engaged in social justice and advocacy across the life of the Uniting Church.

Twenty-five people representing Synods, Synod-based and national agencies came together at St Stephen’s Macquarie Street in central Sydney.

Closure of Ministry Remarks

When I started in this ministry I had no idea what it was about – just an unshakeable sense that it was where I was meant to be.

I’m very thankful for their willingness to take such an enormous risk, but I still wonder, on occasion, how it was that the interview panel decided to give me the job.

Vale Han Spykerboer

Uniting Church members across the country are today giving thanks for the life and service of Rev. Dr Hendrik ‘Han’ Spykerboer.

Han passed away peacefully at home on 11 May in the Prins Willem Alexander Village in the Brisbane suburb of Birkdale. He was 87.

Together for a World Made Whole

World Environment Day is coming up soon. On 5 June, people all over the world will be focussing their attention on how we can better care for the planet. This year, the UnitingJustice World Environment Day resource has gathered together reflections from Indigenous, Pacific and Asian perspectives and stories from around the Uniting Church to inspire us to meet the challenge of our theme: 'Together for a world made whole’. The resource also includes ideas for worship theological reflection on the lectionary readings for the week.

Your Faith, Your Voice, Your Vote

The President of the Uniting Church in Australia Stuart McMillan has encouraged Uniting Church congregations around the country to make their voices heard during the 2016 Federal Election campaign.

“Every election is an important period of national discernment,” said Mr McMillan.

National Director of UnitingJustice Australia Rev. Elenie Poulos has called for the immediate transfer of all asylum seekers on Manus Island to Australia.

Papua New Guinea’s Supreme Court yesterday ruled that the detention of 850 asylum seekers on Manus Island breaches the detainees’ right to personal liberty under the PNG Constitution.
