Padma Raman, Executive Director, Australian Human Rights Commission:
It is a great honour and privilege to be here today to share in the celebration of Elenie Poulos and her ministry.
To me - and I’m sure to everyone here today, Elenie embodies the essence of Christian goodness.
Let me begin then by acknowledging the First People of this place, those who under the grace of God cared for and nurtured and kept this place in life.
Let me thank Elenie for the privilege of being here, for inviting me to this place. We sit in a long line together Elenie and I, I was the second staff person in this role many centuries ago.
Elenie’s ministry at the Assembly began in January 2002 and she was inducted at Centenary Uniting Church in Parramatta on the 22nd of March.
It was a time when justice, peace and faith in humanity were extremely challenged around the world.
When I started in this ministry I had no idea what it was about – just an unshakeable sense that it was where I was meant to be.
I’m very thankful for their willingness to take such an enormous risk, but I still wonder, on occasion, how it was that the interview panel decided to give me the job.
Stuart McMillan, President:
My soul magnifies the Lord and my Spirit rejoices in God my saviour. (Luke 1:47)
Hello I’m Stuart McMillan, the President of the Uniting Church in Australia, and I’m here in Parramatta at Parramatta Mission to share with you my Christmas message for this year.
“…the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; and we have beheld his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father.” (John 1:14)
On behalf of the Uniting Church in Australia, I greet you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ whose birth we celebrate this day; Jesus, the incarnation of God.
An Anniversary Message from the President of the UCA, Rev. Prof Andrew Dutney
It's 37 years since the inauguration of the Uniting Church in Australia was celebrated right here in the Sydney Town Hall. The whole thing was televised. Newly formed UCA Presbyteries and parishes held their own celebrations throughout the country. There was huge excitement.
