Statement on ABC News report

ABC News has today regrettably published a story seeking to highlight divisions within our Church over our decision last year to allow ministers and authorised celebrants the freedom to perform same-gender marriages.

The report contains many factual errors, false allegations and misrepresentations that we will seek to address with the ABC in due course.

Ministry can be stressful in ordinary times and extreme, even disabling, at others.

A wide range of ministers, chaplains and managers in the Uniting Church will, by nature of their work, encounter periods of crisis which can be testing on themselves and their people.

We do well to understand the dynamics of how stress affects our life and relationships and build our capacity and resilience in terms of crisis management.

Sowing for the Future

It was inspiring and renewing to participate in the Synod of Queensland meeting from Friday 17 May until Monday 20 May 2019.

We heard many wonderful stories of the ways God is at work through the faithful and passionate witness of people in local Congregations, Presbyteries, Agencies, schools and communities in the Uniting Church in Queensland.

#NRW2019 Resources

The President of the Uniting Church in Australia, Dr Deidre Palmer and President of the Uniting Aboriginal and Islander Christian Congress, Rev. Garry Dronfield, have encouraged Uniting Church congregations to work more closely with First Peoples in a joint message for Reconciliation Week.

Armenia Calling

A delegation of Uniting Church leaders is on a three-week pilgrimage to Armenia, the world’s first Christian nation. The trip is led by Rev. Krikor Youmshajekian of St Andrews Uniting Church Longueville on Sydney’s lower north shore.

For the past eight weeks we have encouraged Uniting Church members to think deeply ahead of the federal election using the resource, Our Vision for a Just Australia.
