The President of the Uniting Church in Australia Rev. Professor Andrew Dutney has provided the following statement to The Australian newspaper in response to a request for comment on the situation in Iraq and Syria.

It's 37 years since the inauguration of the Uniting Church in Australia was celebrated right here in the Sydney Town Hall. The whole thing was televised. Newly formed UCA Presbyteries and parishes held their own celebrations throughout the country. There was huge excitement.
