Close Encounters at NYALC

The first National Young Adult Leaders Conference I attended was in 2013, and I can still remember something of the bedtime story Aunty Denise Champion shared with us on the third night. It was about the Gum Tree couple.

Who are the 7%?

It’s much easier to be a young person in a church full of other young people, and it’s no secret that some Uniting Church members are gravitating to younger, cooler denominations—or leaving church altogether. Rohan Salmond talks to some young people who have made the choice to stick around.

“I feel like now I have been to church,” Unga said at The Wayside Chapel in King’s Cross. “No us and them”.

This vision from the Chapel came to express the experience of young adults at NYALC 2014 in Sydney in early December.

Inspired by their visit to the Chapel, the 60 participants at NYALC in December grew visibly each day in their vision for the church and its mission for today and tomorrow.

NYALC Reflections

Written by

As a young adult leader in the Uniting Church there are many joys and many struggles.  The National Young Adult Leaders Conference hosted by the Assembly and Congress is a great way for us to gather together and share in our own unique experiences within our denomination.

Future Dates for NCYCs

The Assembly Formation, Education & Discipleship Working Group recently agreed that future NCYCs will be held in 2017 and 2020.

The National Young Adult Leaders’ Conference aims to encourage, bless, grow and empower U.C.A. young adult leaders. We want to “charge your batteries”, help you connect and synch with one another, give you some new apps (leadership and service skills) and have a lot of fun in the process.
